Intern at the Library


CST Library hosts unpaid internships for aspiring librarians, especially those who are interested in considering or pursuing a career in academic librarianship related to the field of Religious Studies. The only prerequisite is for applicants to have an earned bachelor's degree or higher. Preference will be given to applicants currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS/MSLIS program, especially those seeking an internship for Practicum course credit.

Application Process

Send an email to with the following documents attached:

  • Cover letter and personal statement (maximum 2 pages, including an explanation of the prospective intern's fit with the mission of CST and its library and goals for the internship)

  • Resume/CV

  • Digital transcript (official or unofficial) of most recent degree completed

  • Contact information for two (non-family) references

Applications can be submitted at any time. Appointments usually will be made for a specific academic term (Fall, Spring, or Summer). Interns are expected to be available to work at least 10 hours each week.

After receiving an application, a team of three librarians will decide whether to accept an applicant or not. If accepted, the new intern will be assigned a supervising mentor, in conjunction with whom the intern will agree upon specific details related to schedule and responsibilities.
